The Role of cultural resources in Tourism: What Place for Archeology, Museum and Monuments? – Abi A. Derefaka (2001)

This lecture was an exceptionaly apt topic given Professor Bassey Andah’s abiding interests in the subject, highlights the important role of cultural artifacts in tourism developemnt especially in the era of globalization. The author drawa heavily from Professor Andah and Professor Alex Okpoko’s edited book Practicing Archaeology in Africa to demonstrate th indispensable role of cultural artifacts, if Africans are to “properly re-conceptualise and revolutionise their history from a truly African Perspective as well as a universal one”

Over and above these, the author shows how museums and cultural artifacts can be integrated into plans for tourism development. He writes, “The National Commission for museums and Monuments, cultural resource management experts in Universities, managers of private museums and related establishments are important stakeholders in the development
